Lucie Robe — Choosing Your Fabric
Jul 6 2020

Our very first Make by TFS pattern, the Lucie Robe, launched today and we're SO excited! We wanted to share some suggestions for fabric that works well with this pattern.

Lucie is a modern, full-length, oversized robe with a generous front wrap and considered detailing. It's a simple style, designed to lounge in at home, throw over swimwear at the beach, or pair with sandals in the summer as a wrap-style dress!

With tons of beautiful fabrics available in stores and online at the moment, it's the perfect time to pick fabric for your Lucie Robe!

The fabric you choose will have a huge impact on the silhouette and feel of your Lucie Robe! For the ultimate ultra-chic swanning-around-home vibe, we highly recommend Vintage Finish Linen. Not only does this linen feature a uniquely ‘worn-in’ look and super soft handle, but it's also certified to Oeko-TEX Standard 100 and is available in a whole bunch of delicious exclusive robe-worthy colours!

Lucie also looks and feels incredible in Liberty Tana Lawn Cotton! Don’t forget to consider how you will want to wash your robe before choosing a fabric. We recommend pre-washing washable fabrics before you cut your pattern out, to ensure your finished garment does not shrink!

The more experienced sewist may like to try other lightweight fabric options for a fluid, drapey look, including rayon crepe and silk crepe de chine. If you do choose to sew your robe in a lightweight fabric like a silk, you may wish to piece fuse some pattern pieces, such as the waist tie, waist tie and back neck loops and the collar.

For a little more structure, you may also like to try a midweight suiting, velvet, flexible lightweight denim or twill. We haven't tested Lucie in these types of fabric though, so we suggest choosing something you are familiar with sewing!

Please note the Lucie Robe is not suitable for knit fabrics or fabrics with a high-stretch content.
