Make by TFS Bloom Dress (Size NZ 4 -32)
Our Bloom Shirt and Dress pattern is a modern take on a classic button-down shirt, with a shirt and dress view, as well as three collar options, and is designed to compliment your existing wardrobe. It features a casual a-line shape with a subtle swing through the body, a back yoke, front button placket and patch pocket, collar and stand, and long sleeves with button cuffs and placket. The Dress view also features side seam pockets and a deep hem. The pattern also offers a sleeve length shorting indication line, if you wish to customise for each season!
For Zosia's measurements we made the size 12 dress opting for short sleeves and the pointed collar, this used 2.6m of our Liberty Chelsea Georgette - Garden Wonderland / C (133cm wide). We decided to french seam all seams for a high-quality, neat finish, (especially when using sheer fabric where the finishing of your seams can be visible!) so we added an extra 3mm to the seam allowance on each side seams and sleeve seams. For a styling option, we made a small waist tie measuring 1.5cm wide and 2m long once finished (3.5cm x 202cm unfinished cut piece) and chose to omit the front patch pocket for this sheer fabric.
The only other trims and notions used were x8 of our 12.7mm - Ivory Trocas Shell Buttons and 0.5m of our Stretch Weft / White - Fusible Interfacing for the collar, collar stand and the front button plackets too which is an optional step, we also decided to add edge-stitching down the front button plackets encouraging the edges to sit flat and neat.
We think this turned out wonderfully and makes for an ultra-versatile dress, pair it with a slip like the Ogen Cami Dress Zosia is wearing sewn in our Pumice - Tencel Twill or layer it with jeans and a tee for a more casual look!
We categorise our Bloom pattern as suitable for Intermediate level sewists, but if you're a confident beginner that has had (or would like) some experience sewing with sheer fabrics, we think you could give it a go!
Liberty Chelsea Georgette - Garden Wonderland / C
How stunning is this fabulous floral?! We love it's classic primary tones and how the sheerness of the fabric offers a softness to the print. This Style is also available in two other colourways Garden Wonderland / A and B!
