Zadie Jumpsuit
29—October 2019
We review the Zadie Jumpsuit from Paper Theory in our Exclusive Linen - Marsala!
If you follow our blog regularly, you’ll know how much we LOVE a good jumpsuit, so naturally we got super excited when Paper Theory’s new Zadie Jumpsuit was released earlier this year. Fresh off the sewing machine, this one is a definite winner; the ideal combo of chic wide straight leg, flattering pleat detail and gentle wrap closure. We made ours up in our beautiful Marsala Heavyweight Linen and can’t get enough of the end result!
Zadie Jumpsuit by Paper Theory
The Zadie Jumpsuit is a relaxed and easy to wear one piece that comes with the option of wide 3/4 length sleeves or sleeveless with a dropped shoulder, which is the version we picked. It wraps around the body and fastens with a tie so there is no need for buttons or a zip – making it quick and to easy sew, and quick and easy to get on and off. The legs are cut wide and skim above the ankle. It also features deep slant pockets on the front, with small pleats at the waist on the front and back.
We sewed our Zadie up in a size 10 for Lisa referring to the measurements and found the fit to be lovely and relaxed. It has a casual feel with plenty of space through the body, making it nice and breezy in warmer weather and allowing enough room to layer a long sleeve underneath in cooler months. We did note that the crotch sits fairly low on Lisa, which we didn’t mind but you could totally shorten it a little, like Fiona from Diary Of A Chainstitcher did with her version here.
Tara from Paper Theory has done a beautiful job of drafting this pattern and the instructions are clear and easy to follow. She suggests that the Zadie would suit an advanced beginner, which we would agree with. There are a few techniques involved such as making your own bias binding (or purchasing pre-made such as these) and applying it to the neckline, as well as sewing a slant trouser pocket but rest easy, there are no zips or buttons to contend with in this pattern!
Paper Theory suggest that the Zadie was designed especially for woven, medium-weight fabrics like cotton and linen, as well as fabric with a drapey quality like rayon crepe, viscose twill or satin. We chose to make ours up in beautiful deep Marsala red, a recent addition to our Exclusive Heavyweight Linen colour range. This style would also work beautifully in a plain or chambray linen, soft denim or even a printed rayon for a dressier feel!
